The new GLA takes a further step in the field of safety with its driver assistance systems, which provide cooperative assistance to the driver. Some of the expanded features of the driver assistance package include, for example, the turn function, the emergency corridor function, the warning function when leaving the vehicle if cyclists or other vehicles approach, and a preventive warning if recognize people in the environment of a crosswalk.

The GLA is capable of reacting on its own if the driver does not. Active braking assistant is responsible in many situations to initiate autonomous braking to avoid a collision or, at least, to mitigate its severity.

Up to its own speed of around 60 km / h, the system can also brake in front of stopped vehicles or in front of pedestrians crossing the road.
